In the book, Small Steps, there are a lot of themes. Some of the themes that I chose were Love, Betrayal, and Honesty. I have an explanation that relates to the book for each of them.
Love- Ginny loves here stuffed animals. She loves them because she can relate to them. Since people look at her differently, she always knows that she can trust "lovies", which is what she calls her stuffed animals.
Honesty- In the letter Kaira gave Theodore, she was very honest with him. She told him exactly what she was thinking not what was "cool" sounding.
Betrayal- El Genius was betraying Kaira's mom by cheating on her with her best friend. He should have chose between one or the other and not cheated.

Small Steps

Ever wondered what it would be like to meet a famous pop star? In the book Small Steps, Theodore gets to! This book is about a boy named Theodore. He is a nice kid who only wants to stay out of trouble. He was sent to Camp Green Lake because of a bowl of popcorn. Ever since then, he has been thought of differently. This doesn't help him because people already perceive him differently because he is African American. Thanks to his friend Ginny, he got to go backstage and meet Kaira DeLeon and this is where the action begins!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It definitely was and interesting book. It had great detail and tone. The author included lyrics for the artist in this book named Kaira DeLeon. Her lyrics made you deeply understand what she was thinking.
I have to say, Ginny is my favorite character. Even though she a has a disability, she still has personality. She has cerebral palsy. I feel really bad for her and wish there was something I could do to help.
I would recommend this book for both boys and girls between the age of 11-15. This book includes stuff that might be happening at this period in your life and it will make the book easier to understand. If you like books you can never put down, this is the book for you.
